Italian iconoclast Pier Paolo Pasolini casts Maria Callas as Medea, the central character in the ancient Greek story of Jason and the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece. When Jason asks for the fleece, the infatuated priestess Medea helps him steal it. Fleeing with the Argonauts, Medea demonstrates her cruel streak by slaying her brother to put off the army dogging them; only a taste of her wrath when she is spurned by husband Jason.
