Fear eats the Soul - dvd

Released: 9 July 2008 Fear eats the Soul - dvd

Set in 1974 in a West Germany which is still feeling the after-effects of the Second World War, the film follows Emmi - a cleaner who is well and truly in the second half of her life. Emmi lives a solitary life: a widow with grown up children, she feels an unbearable sense of loneliness. One evening, as a downpour prevents her from walking home, she stops into a bar to wait out the rain. It is here that she meets Ali - a Moroccan immigrant more than twenty years her junior. In spite of the differences in their ages and cultures, Emmi and Ali embark upon a torrid love affair, marrying after only a few weeks. But their happiness is disastrously marred by the reactions of Emmi's children, coworkers and fellow townspeople, who are disgusted by Emmi's brazen flouting of convention.
