Mad Hot Ballroom is an inspiring look inside the lives of ten year old new York school kids who journey into the world of dance. The school room classes offer a diverse collection of kids, many of them from immigrant families, a much needed opportunity to gain self confidence and a sense of purpose. The passionate teachers take them through a repertoire including merengue, rumba, tango, the foxtrot and swing. In the process we see the children learn a whole lot more than just how to make the right steps as they reveal pieces of themselves, on their way towards the city wide competition finals. Told from their candid, sometimes hilarious perspectives the film celebrates their intricate lives and reminds us of what it was like when anything was possible.
